How did you get started?

With an apprenticeship in Fitting and Machining as a teenager.

Greatest professional achievement

My first promotion...... Having the responsibility as a Supervisor on a brand new processing facility that was based on "world first technology" at the age of 23. It was a great learning curve for responsibility and accountability. It was also the biggest stepping stone for me in that I developed a tenacity to enrol at university and attain more qualifications while I was still earning.

Challenges the job presents

Troubleshooting plant issues; recommending repair and replacement scopes for fixed plant assets; developing strategies to ensure we utilise maintenance budgets as effectively as we can; establishing root causes of equipment failure.

What you like most about your job

I learn new things every week, meet great people, and I have the freedom to choose where I work and live due to the variety within this employment sector. I'm fortunate in the fact I love what I do. It's diverse, so the rewards are more pleasing and frequent.

Typical day at work

Passing recommendations on repairs, status reporting for equipment condition, working in a group for continuous improvement on fixed Plant for the longevity of our business.

Advice for other women

Finding your area of interest is the key. Never turn your back on opportunities to learn, or underestimate your capabilities. Always be professional and ethical and your goals will eventually fill themselves in.
