What are you studying?

Bachelor of Biomedical Science, The University of Queensland

How did you get started?

I always have had my aims and dreams in my mind and so selected subjects at school that would help me with this degree. During school I gathered a lot of information about university life so was well prepared once I graduated.

What you like most about your studies?

We are at an interesting point of cutting edge scientific technologies and are revealing a lot about things that before were very hard to find. My studies allow me to explore some of the ways of discovering science and increase my knowledge and development in this field.

Greatest achievement

I received an Overall Position 1 at school and was honoured to receive the 2008 Suncorp Young Queenslander of the Year Award in recognition of my hard work, achievements and community activities.

Challenges studying presents

Science involves a lot of practicals and assignments. Sometimes things get stressful but eventually they settle down.

What do you hope to do when you graduate?

Get into medicine and help people.

Advice for other girls/women considering studying in this field

It is one of the most challenging fields requiring both patience and perseverance. However it is truly rewarding in every way.
