- 41
- Location:
- Scarborough, Redcliffe Peninsula
- Current job title:
- Managing Director
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Social Science (Geography)
- Masters of Spatial Science (Currently enrolled)
Past experience
I have experience with both private industry and government at a state and local level. This is combined with a detailed knowledge of all of the GIS software packages commercially available and the customisation of those packages to meet customer's needs. I have also worked extensively within the health industry as a GIS consultant combining demographic and health data to allow detailed interrogation of information.
How did you get started?
My early interest in geography at school led me to apply for a junior position in government with a mapping focus. As time and technology progressed, my skills and experience grew and I realised that GIS and social mapping was where I saw myself being long term, applying my knowledge of mapping and the natural and social environment to my career.
Greatest professional achievement
I had the opportunity to take my own research project from a basic prototype and evolving that research into a commercially viable product. This has lead to my first commercial sale into a government department. This research has become the core asset for my own business and a platform that has facilitated business growth as my customer base has grown.
Challenges the job presents

Advice for other women
- Never give up on your goals.
My dream was to have my own business doing what I loved and although the road to achieve this was long it has been worth the time and effort.
- Believe in yourself.
There are plenty of people who will tell you what you cannot do, or that what you are trying to do is unachievable. Be aware that not all advice is good advice.
- Surround yourself with positive people.
You cannot do it all yourself so you need people around you that you can depend on and trust.
- Be flexible.
Sometimes the easiest way from A to B is not a straight line. Your original plan may have to change as your goals and environment change.
- Work hard. There is no replacement for hard work and determination.Never give up on your goals.
