Great Queensland women

Great Queensland Women pays tribute to 21 outstanding women - activist, trailblazers, achievers and reformers who all contributed to the shaping of our State.
This book was published by the Queensland Government Office for Women in 2005 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of women having the vote in State elections - and the 40th anniversary for Indigenous Queenslanders.
The stories of 21 women from fields as diverse as social work, medicine, geology, law, art, community work and government include Queensland's first lawyer, parliamentarian, doctor, policewomen, as well as the founders of the first maternity hospital and children's hospital.
The first wave activists who fought for suffrage include Emma Miller, May Jordan McConnel and Margaret Ogg while more recent activists such as Eva Bacon, Kath Walker (Oodgeroo Noonuccal), Celia Smith and Merle Thornton are also included.
The book has 100 full colour pages and is fully illustrated.
Great Queensland Women is available at all Queensland libraries.
