Office for Women helps celebrate Queensland's 150th birthday
A pictorial history of women's contributions to Queensland, 1859 - 2009
In 2009, Queensland celebrates its 150th birthday, representing 150 years since Queensland's separation from New South Wales.
The Queensland Government's year-long celebrations (Q150) have been designed to enable Queenslanders to take stock, reflect back, think ahead and move forward.
This milestone provides an opportunity to celebrate 150 years of amazing women and reflect on the achievements of the many pioneering and inspirational women who have contributed to making Queensland the state we have become.
To help celebrate Q150, the Office for Women has launched an online pictorial history profiling some of the women, places, events and stories significant to women, which have shaped Queensland during the last 150 years.
The pictorial history - Our Women, Our State: An online pictorial history of women's contributions to Queensland 1859-2009 - aims to inspire women and girls to consider how they can contribute to building tomorrow's Queensland by reflecting on the achievements of women throughout Queensland’s history.
The pictorial history was launched at an International Women’s Day 2009 event at Parliament House on 6 March 2009.
