What is an RSS feed?
Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a simple and quick way to see updated information on the Office for Women website.
How do I use feeds?
You will need a feed reader (also known as a feed aggregator). A feed reader is software that automatically checks the feeds that you are subscribed to and notifies you when they have been updated.
RSS feeds are usually marked by an icon that looks similar to
. If you click on a RSS link or icon you can subscribe to the feed with your reader.
There are different styles of feed readers:
- Inbuilt browser readers are very simple. The browser checks for updates to a feed and lets you know when they have been updated. Each browser does this in a slightly different method. Please check the browser documentation for more information.

- Web based readers use a website to view your feeds, in similar method to accessing email through Hotmail or Gmail.
- Offline readers let you access the feeds on your computer, in similar method to Outlook or Lotus Notes.
How do I get a feed reader?
There is a range of different news readers available and new versions are appearing all the time. Different news readers work on different operating systems, so you will need to choose one that will work with your computer.
The following is not an exhaustive list of available news readers and is only provided for your convenience.
