What are the Our Women, Our State Awards 2009?

The Our Women, Our State Awards program recognised the achievements of Queensland girls and women in advancing other females in the non-traditional industries of science, engineering and technology (SET). Through the awards, we recognised the tireless work - both public and behind the scenes - that women do to encourage and support other women in these traditionally male-dominated industries.

In celebration of Queensland's 150th birthday in 2009 (Q150), the awards also recognised and rewarded the outstanding contribution of one Queensland woman to the community through the Great Queensland Woman Award.

The Our Women, Our State Awards built on the former Smart Women - Smart State Awards which were delivered under the Queensland Government's Women in the Smart State Directions Statement 2003-2008. For the past seven years, the Office for Women has been awarding girls and women excelling in SET industries as part of the Smart Women - Smart State Strategy. With the completion of the strategy, the Our Women, Our State Awards 2009 was the final program to award the achievements of girls and women in these industries. The Office for Women will launch a new awards program in 2010.
